When The New York Times Co. began offering a campus-centric version of the Gainesville Sun to University of Florida students, researchers Steve J. Collins and Cory Armstrong took advantage of the chance to compare readership of this free daily to the campus newspaper, the Independent Florida Alligator. In an analysis of oral arguments in 31 cases involving newspapers heard by the U. S. Supreme Court, researchers Edward L. Carter and James C. Phillips found newspaper attorneys the objects of more interaction with members of the Court than were attorneys for non-newspaper litigants.
