KJazz Blues Bash
Grammy-winning blues harpist and vocalist James Cotton will bring his harmonica to Long Beach as the headliner for the KKJZ-FM (88.1) blues festival, beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center, 6200 Atherton St. Cotton will be joined by former Doors guitarist Robby Krieger. Also on the program will be Lil' Ed and the Blues Imperials, singer-guitarist Ana Popovic and bluesman Shawn Pittman. PORTSMOUTH - , 84, passed away peacefully Dec. 29, 2008. He was born in Portsmouth. He was a proud veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army's 672nd Amphibious Tractor Battalion in the Philippines. The 672nd Amtrac Battalion spearheaded the liberation of the Japanese POW camp in Los Banos, Laguna. Known as the Los Banos Raid, they successfully rescued 2,147 prisoners that were scheduled to be executed that morning. He was a member of Westhaven Baptist Church.
James is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marceline W.
