The image of a giant peach filled with oversize, talking insects was utterly captivating when I was a child, and "James and the Giant Peach" was one of my favorite books. If that sounds like your little one, you can now see the story live on stage.

McKeesport Little Theater 2nd Stage Players are having a lot of fun rehearsing their latest show, and the audience -- especially the younger theater-goers -- should have a great time, too.

A giant peach is rolling into town next week. And don't worry, James is coming too. Imagination Celebration will kick off its family theater season with a Theatreworks USA (no relation to the local TheatreWorks) musical adaptation of Roald Dahl's "James and the Giant Peach" on Monday at the Pikes Peak Center. For those unfamiliar with the children's book-turned-movie, "James and the Giant Peach" is the story of a young boy sent to live with his two wicked aunts after his parents are eaten by a rhinoceros that escaped the London Zoo. In need of a quick and inexpensive activity, my fiancee and I left home for the Country Club Reel Theater. Given the status of today's economy, an older $3 film typically has more appeal than risking disappointment for $9.50. We'd both wanted to see Caratine since we first saw previews, with the stop-action animation leading us to believe the film was Tim Burton's latest project. (P.S.: It's not. Henry Selick, Burton's director for A Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach, wrote the screenplay, produced and directed.) Also, we were most excited when the film was released in 3-D, but at the cheap theaters, the view is only two-dimensional.
