It's what Rabbi Fabian Werbin wanted: synagogue members getting together to bake the pizzas and eat them in the hut and then share some laughs.
The occasion? The Jewish harvest festival called Sukkot, which is a remembrance of when the Israelites left Egypt and wandered the desert, building huts for shelter.

JERUSALEM - Israeli airstrikes killed four Palestinian militants in Gaza while Palestinians fired rockets into southern Israel, hitting a synagogue and a school and wounding several Israelis in the aftermath of the deadliest attack against Israelis in three years.
Palestinian militants in Gaza launched more than two dozen rockets into Israel on Friday, the Israeli military said. One smashed through a roof of a Jewish seminary, damaging a synagogue in the port city of Ashdod and wounding six Israelis who were standing outside, Israeli emergency services said. One hit an empty school, and another, aimed at the city of Ashkelon, was intercepted by the new Israeli anti-missile system known as Iron Dome.

Singer Jaime Rosemberg comes to Roanoke for 12 days every year to sing during holidays in the city's synagogue. This year, his other job - chronicling the work of Argentina's political brass - cut his visit short.
He flew here on Thursday. On Friday morning, he called into an Argentine radio show, where he is a regular commentator, and in the afternoon he took a nap to rest his vocal cords for the marathon of leading Yom Kippur songs at Beth Israel Synagogue on Friday night and today.

Last Friday I had the honor of representing the Israeli Consulate General at Temple Sinai in Glendale, Calif., as part of the synagogue's celebration of Israel's Independence Day. Jews and many Christians around the world pause at this time of year to give thanks for the creation of the Jewish state against impossible odds 63 years ago, and I thoroughly enjoyed speaking to them and answering their questions. For Palestinians and their supporters, however, May 15 of every year is al-Nakba ("the catastrophe"), a day to celebrate victimhood. I have always viewed al-Nakba as a wasted teaching opportunity for the next generation of Palestinians. If I had the opportunity to address a young audience in Ramallah next year on May 15, I would highlight the following lessons that should be learned...
