ORLANDO, Fla. -- It's obvious from watching the Muggles swarm past the entry gates and stampede in a herd toward the back of the Islands of Adventure Park that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is a powerful, magical draw.
It's also a huge success with thousands hitting the park and as many or more pints of Butter Beer sold every day. It better be a success since Universal signed a contract that says the franchise rights to Potter's world -- the most successful in movie history -- can be pulled after nine years if Universal fails to maintain minimum high-quality standards, doesn't invest enough capital or sells controlling interests.

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which marked its first birthday June 18, has established an enthusiastic following, the kind seen for the books and films featuring a boy wizard created by author J.K. Rowling.
Visitors to Universal's Islands of Adventure theme park can go inside Hogwarts castle, swig two kinds of butterbeer and buy magic wands. Some guests take their devotion to an extreme, the sort of extreme that helped make IOA the fastest-growing theme park in the world last year, according to industry estimates.

MIAMI - It sounds like a new book in the Harry Potter series, but "Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey" will be a high-tech ride and the marquee attraction at the "Wizarding World of Harry Potter," a new theme park area opening in spring 2010 at Universal Orlando Resort.
The "Forbidden Journey" ride was named by author J.K. Rowling and described Tuesday by Universal officials in a webcast revealing details of what the Potter park will look like.

Universal Orlando has at least temporarily changed a popular Harry Potter-themed thrill ride following two recent accidents in which guests were struck by loose objects -- including one who ultimately lost his right eye.
Universal Orlando said Wednesday it has stopped simultaneously launching a pair of intertwined, suspended-seating roller coasters that together make up the "Dragon Challenge" attraction in Universal's Islands of Adventure theme park.

Licensed merchandise is one valuable way to propel the presence of a character or entertainment property, but another platform, the theme park attraction, can create the next best thing to a real life experience for a fan, or even loop in a new generation of followers. That's the idea behind Warner Bros. Consumer Products' opening last month of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction at Universal Orlando's Islands of Adventure theme park, as well as several other upcoming launches at Disney's California Adventure, Rainbow Magic Land in Rome and more. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is just the start of a growing wave of new licensed attractions. Licensed theme parks continue to push the envelope, creating the most immersive and, sometimes, hair-raising experience for customer...
