These technological programs are scheduled during June at the YWCA of Westmoreland County, 424 N. Main St., Greensburg: -- Various computer classes including introduction to computers, mail merge, file structure, buying and selling on eBay and Microsoft Excel, Office, PowerPoint, Word and Windows 7. Times and fees vary.
WEST HAVEN -- The West Haven Senior Center will offer an eight- week computer course for participants ages 55 and older at the Johnson Community Center, 201 Noble St. "Introduction to Computers" will meet 9:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesdays, starting today. Classes will cover the basics of the Windows operating system and the Internet.
A detailed description provides a general introduction to the operation of data communications systems involving the networking of computers, terminals and modems. The technology of the network components and their data structures and methods for communicating those structures is described. The way in which network parts interact is explained, for example the way in which modems convert the digital signals of a terminal into analog signals which can be transmitted over phone lines. The topics explained include: modem-computer interaction; interfaces; bandwidth; ranges of transmission speed for modems; remote diagnostics in modems; communications protocols; control and routing of data transfer; network types.
These classes and programs are scheduled in the YWCA of Westmoreland County, 424 N. Main St., Greensburg: May computer classes, with start dates beginning May 2. Topics include introduction to computers, computer maintenance and Microsoft Excel, Office, Word and Windows 7. Private tutoring and on-site training also is available.

Revolutionary change is coming to high schools in the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corp. this year - the introduction of computers as day-to-day teaching tools. EVSC officials say the move is an acknowledgment that today's students are immersed in technology and learn differently than previous generations.

Topics and start dates for January computer classes offered at the YWCA of Westmoreland County include: Mail Merge, Jan. 9; Introduction to Computers and Microsoft PowerPoint 2010, Jan. 10; MS Word 2010 beginner and MS Publisher, Jan. 11; MS Excel 2010 beginner, Jan. 12; MS Access 2010, Jan. 13; Computer Maintenance and Windows 7, Jan. 23; and iPad, Jan. 26.
LA MIRADA - Learn to use computers and to access the Internet through hands-on classes taught by trained senior volunteer instructors. SeniorNet's basic curriculum includes courses on computer fundamentals, introduction to computers, word processing and introduction to digital photography.
