Couldn't help responding to the Dec. 10 article, "Globe-trotting Wurzburger touts Santa Fe," about Mayor Pro Tem Rebecca Wurzburger visiting Shanghai this month in the name of "tourism." Didn't I read that schools are cutting budgets to make up for our tax shortfall?
Give me an enlightened break! Shanghai? How about detailed reports of her "tourism trips" to show just how much of our tax revenue was spent and how much tourism revenue was brought in. (Is the shredder turned on?) And is her business, International Creative Tourism Associates. a for-profit company? Isn't that a conflict of interest? Please clarify so I can understand how this gets approved.

As the end of 2005 approaches, small businesses are more wary of the future as a yearlong trend away from optimism continues, according to a new study from the International Profit Associates Small Business Research Board.
Confidence in the general economy has eroded. Just 26 percent of those surveyed said they expect the economy to improve over the next 12 months. This compares to the 53 percent of those surveyed who said the economy would improve at the beginning of the year, and 43 percent who thought the economy would improve in an IPA SBRB survey in July.

The general state of the economy, taxes and the cost of materials were the three leading concerns of small manufacturing businesses during the second quarter of 2007 according to the latest Small Business Research Board study released on July 11. Owners of manufacturing businesses responding to the nationwide poll co-sponsored by International Profit Associates said health care costs, which had been the single most significant issue during the first quarter of 2007, fell to sixth. The small business owners said adding more automation or technology as well as improving existing automation would be their primary means for enhancing productivity during the coming 12 to 24 months.
