LONDON (Reuters) - A Spanish-based charity lies behind the $10 billion in oil futures that back the mysterious bonds in a Reuters investigation of hedge fund DDCM. Its motto is ambitious: "We are responsible for everything which is taking place in this World!" reads a slogan on its website.
Despite that ambition, and offices in countries including the United States and Australia, the International Charitable Christian Fund has almost no public profile, and evidence of its humanitarian work is hard to come by.

[...] the activities of multinational corporations and IFIs such as the World Trade Organization (WTO), the World Bank, or the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have each been connected to TNC activity. International statebuilding measures-peacekeeping operations, humanitarian assistance, and the formation and governance of state institutions-are deemed necessary to protect populations from gross human rights abuses, but also to prevent the emergence of TNCs, particularly terrorism, in states that "are too weak to police their borders and enforce the rule of law" (Chandler, 2006: 476).

The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund said their boards decided this week to forgive Haiti's obligations to the two organizations, a move that triggered previously announced debt relief from the Inter-American Development Bank.
