VIENNA, Austria -- Oil prices fell Friday as traders took profits after prices jumped above $61 a barrel the previous day.
The oil market was also digesting a monthly report Friday from the International Energy Agency, which trimmed its outlook for 2006 global oil demand growth to 1.1 percent from 1.2 percent. Demand growth for 2007 held at 1.7 percent.

The International Energy Agency's monthly Oil Market Report came out negative today for crude oil prices. The IEA cut its 2006 global crude oil demand growth forecast by 220,000 barrels per day, or 15 percent, as a result of lower first-quarter consumption and indications high crude oil prices are slowing demand.
We had been expecting such a revision as the agency's prior 1.47- million bpd growth forecast was well above last year's 1-million- bpd demand increase, said analysts at Friedman, Billings, Ramsey & Company Inc. of Arlington, Va. Our 2006 crude oil price forecast is $59 a barrel. However, this may prove to be too low given that prices have averaged $65 a barrel year to date and are now $73 a barrel.

PARIS - Iraqi oil output has risen dramatically in recent months, hitting its highest level in about 3 1/2 years in November, the International Energy Agency said Friday.
The Paris-based agency, in its monthly oil market report, cited improving security as it reported that Iraqi production rose to 2.32 million barrels per day in November, a slight increase from October and up from 1.9 million barrels per day in the first quarter or 2007.

Money market rate premiums have been high and volatile. The difference between money market rates and central bank key rates has been the widest since the international financial turbulence started in August last year. Norwegian money market rates increased sharply after international risk premiums spilled over into the Norwegian market. Foreign exchange markets have also been volatile. Investors have shown interest in the large and most liquid currencies. Growth is also slowing in the Norwegian economy. Household consumption has stagnated and house prices are falling. Monetary policy in Norway is oriented towards annual consumer price inflation of close to 2.5% over time. In recent years, inflation has on average been somewhat lower, but fairly close to 2.5%.
