Local credit unions offer free shredding
The Yakima Valley's credit unions are offering free document shredding at two Yakima credit unions. The event, which coincides with International Credit Union Week, will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 20 at Catholic Credit Union, 110 N. 5th Ave. and at HAPO Community Credit Union, 5800 Summitview Ave.

A new program launched this week in New Orleans by Kiva, an international lender, does something that until now has been inconceivable. Not only is it offering small business loans of $10,000; it's doing so without regard to the borrower's collateral or creditworthiness.
That distinguishes Kiva City loans from "any lending you will find in the city, state or region," ASI Federal Credit Union Senior Vice President Sarah Taylor said.
