MSA Chairman and CEO John T. Ryan III said Thursday he plans to retire in mid-2008, and the safety products company intends to replace him with William M. Lambert, former president of MSA North America. Lambert, 48, was promoted by the company's board to the new position of president and chief operating officer. Ryan, grandson of MSA founder John T. Ryan, will be close to age 65 when he retires. Ryan said all of MSA's chief executives had retired at that age, and "it seemed sensible for me to do so also."
