REDLANDS - The Isaac Newton International Academy Charter school will not open this fall as part of the Redlands Unified School District. The Board of Education voted to deny the academy's charter proposal during a special meeting Thursday because of concerns with program delivery, program concept and fiscal feasibility of the school.

LA MIRADA - A grassroots organization initially formed to provide a children's playgroup for local German families hopes to launch a new charter school this fall through the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District. The recent action by the Pasadena Unified School District board to reject the charter for Aveson International School for the Arts Charter School gives anyone cause to wonder about the motivation of the board and administration. Do they genuinely have Pasadena students' needs in mind when making policy decisions? Aveson currently operates two of the highest performing schools in Pasadena. Why would the district deny this charter? Is it truly an issue of financial instability and racial imbalance, as stated by the District's attorney, or is it a matter of political control and funding dollars so necessary for PUSD's budget?
