  • Another major international basketball tournament is coming to Colorado Springs. The national governing body for basketball is expected to announce today that the FIBA Americas U18 Championship for Women, an eight-country tournament that has served as a springboard to the Olympics, will be held June 23-27 at the Olympic Training Center.

  • APPLE CREEK -- Fairlawn Mennonite Church, 8520 Emerson Road, will be host for a 3-on-3 men and boys basketball tournament April 1-2. All proceeds will benefit The Reckoning International, to help the needy in poverty stricken areas. Each team is guaranteed three games; there is a maximum four players per team. Registration deadline is March 26 and cost is $50 per team (make checks payable to Fairlawn Mennonite Church and write The Reckoning in memo line). Brackets will be drawn up on March 28.

He was born, Bernard Louis Carnevale in Raritan, N.J., Oct. 30, 1915, the son of Alexander and Amelia Carnevale. He had a lifetime impact on the sport of basketball.
