Recent decades have seen momentous changes in the economic geography of the world. Political transitions and economic liberalization have brought formerly closed countries into the world economy. This sketch describes some of the forces driving change in the world economy and some of the ensuing changes in economic geography. It also challenges the understanding of the location of economic activity and of the determinants of changes in the pattern of location. There are many reasons for variation in the prosperity of countries and regions. Some factors are truly exogenous and others are a function of political and institutional history. Even as globalization causes dispersion of activity, so economic development will be in sequence, not in parallel; some countries will experience rapid ...

A look at Malaysia's current account and its effects on international reserves and the ringgit.
THE Balance of Payments' current account, which is generally defined as the exports of goods and services minus imports, indicates the health of a country's economy, the potential size of its reserves in the absence of a massive capital flight, and the strength of its currency.

An important building block in modern dynamic stochastic general equilibrium (DSGE) models is the price-setting equation for firms. In models in which the adjustment of nominal prices is costly, this equation links inflation to current and future expected real marginal costs and is typically referred to as the New Keynesian Phillips curve (NKPC). This article reviews estimates of NKPC parameters that have been obtained by fitting fully specified DSGE models to US data. By now, numerous empirical papers estimate DSGE models with essentially the same NKPC specification. In this literature, the Phillips curve implies that inflation can be expressed as the discounted sum of expected future marginal costs, where marginal costs equal the labor share. The review of empirical studies distinguis...

This study examines the relationship between the extent of electronic procurement (e-procurement) usage, measured in different dimensions on volume, diversity, breadth, and depth, and the performance gains with respect to operations and financial performance. A survey of companies in Singapore resulted in 141 usable responses for data analyses. Findings reveal that different dimensions of e-procurement usage have different relationships with performance.
