Improve the schools? Yes we can School consolidation is a red herring. The problem with our education system is that we, as an inventive, problem-solving country, have not defined the real challenge: to educate and socialize generations of children who, for all intents and purposes, have no parents, no support system, no love, no loyalty in their lives.
TENAFLY - Joe Del Buono called it "an empty feeling," when for all intents and purposes the boys basketball season at Ramapo ended a year ago this weekend when River Dell denied its last ditch effort to qualify for the State tournament. The Green Raiders were left out of the Bergen Jamboree, and then their quest to reach the North 1, Group 3 tournament hit the skids when they lost that River Dell game, which was added to the schedule on the cutoff date for the States.
[...] . Here's what the brain scientists say about her: . . . somewhere in the confines of the frontal lobe are neuronal networks that act to all intents and purposes like a homunculus. No image captures more surely the intermediate place of our conscious minds, looking around with wonderment between the superb blank of our inmost thought activity and the stupendous blank of our sensory activity.
This is the third year we have attempted to cultivate rhubarb, and our first year to have success. Rhubarb is a weird plant. There is actually some conflict over whether it's a fruit or a vegetable. Traditionally, it's a vegetable, but functionally, it's used as a fruit. A court in New York in 1947 determined it to be a fruit for all intents and purposes, so you can call it a fruit if you want to. Or a vegetable, if you dare, since it really is one. Except not legally. It would make a good argument! Rhubarb looks and feels a lot like celery. It has long, reddish- green crispy stalks, which are edible. The leaves are toxic. Don't eat 'em! The stalks have a very strong tart taste. I've hated, loathed and despised rhubarb most of my life, and I don't even know why. I don't remember ever co...
My wife and several of my friends are members of the Black Rose Acoustic Society, which, for all intents and purposes, is a cult. They have their own language (involving frets and tunings), their own fashion sense (my beard isn't nearly long enough), their own handshakes. They worship acoustic music with an intensity only metal heads would understand.
I'm considering using a credit union instead of a traditional bank. What is your opinion? - Mark, via email Most credit unions today offer the same benefits that traditional banks offer. They may call a checking account by a different name, but it's still a checking account for all intents and purposes.
When Tyler Block stood before the Nebraska Supreme Court to argue against a district court ruling that barred his client from pursuing custody and visitation rights with the child she had raised with her ex-partner, he struck a blow not only for the gay and lesbian community but for all non-biological parents. I think it's very important [that we won], definitely for the client, because she has, for all intents and purposes, been a parent to the child," said Block. "The broader implication is that other people who may be similarly situated will have the ability to seek custody and parenting time if they have a parent-child relationship with the child.
Playoff hockey isn't set to begin officially for the Washington Capitals until April 13 or shortly thereafter. At that point players will start growing their beards, and the life and death of a season will be measured in seven-game increments. But for all intents and purposes, the playoffs have already begun. Each game takes on greater importance and seems to mean more than those back in October and November. The Caps have a different mentality down the stretch this season, too.
