As a parent and advocate for families of children with autism, I am requesting that Gov. David A. Paterson veto the autism insurance bill passed recently by both the Senate and Assembly.

In a time when laws are being passed to reduce and eliminate discrimination, this bill will not level the field for diagnosis and treatment. New York already has a law that requires all insurers to provide for the treatment and diagnosis of autism. Why do we need a new one?
