On Jun 2, 2003, a subcontractor using a torch to cut and weld structural steel supports ignited combustible materials. The flames spread, causing more than $2 million in damage. Weitz had obtained a commercial builder's risk insurance policy from Liberty Insurance Underwriters Inc which contained various warranty endorsements designed to reduce fire hazards.
