The Inland Empire Small Business Development Center plans a "How to Start a Small Business" workshop on Feb. 21.
Workshop leaders will offer lessons on business planning, small business financing, legal documents, licensing and related topics.

The Inland Empire Small Business Development Center Network, scheduled to open in January, will be based at the Inland Empire Center for Entrepreneurship, which itself is part of Cal State San Bernardino.
The Inland Empire Economic Partnership, a business advocacy group, along with Cal State Fullerton's Orange County/Inland Empire Regional Small Business Development Center Network, are scheduled to run the new business network.

Jittery Inland Empire business owners who have credit lines with CIT Group Inc. are reassessing their financial options after the mega commercial lender filed for bankruptcy this week.

Economic agency names new chairman, chief operating officer
The Inland Empire Economic Partnership board of directors has selected Dan Rendler to be chairman in 2010. Rendler will succeed Arrowhead Credit Union CEO Larry Sharp, who will step down in December. Rendler, who has served as vice chairman of the agency's Executive Committee and chairman of its Government Affairs and Public Policy Committee, is regional director of Southern California Gas and San Diego Gas and Electric, both Sempra Energy companies. Sharp also announced the selection of Vincent McCoy for the newly created position of chief operating officer. Along with his new duties, McCoy will continue as director of the Inland Empire Small Business Development Center, a position he has held since May 2002.

The Inland Empire Small Business Development Center will hold a COBRA compliance workshop from 9 to 11 a.m. Jan. 8 at the San Bernardino County Business Resource Center, 9650 Ninth St., Rancho Cucamonga. Participants will taught about new and revised forms, timetables, common mistakes and a little known requirement with huge potential for liability.
