TOWNSHIP 17 RANGE 5 - The University of Maine at Machias soccer team had a rough weekend, wrecking a university van Friday night while on their way to the University of Maine at Fort Kent, then losing the conference championship soccer game to the UMFK Bengals 1- 0 on Saturday.
No one was injured in the accident that involved the driver of the van and seven members of the UMM soccer team as passengers. Everyone was wearing a seat belt, Maine State Trooper Kim Espling said Sunday.

"Age and gender are important demographics to consider when examining sports-related injuries.
"Soccer continues to be a popular sport among all ages, especially high school athletes," said study co-author Dawn Comstock, Ph.D., CIRP principal investigator at Nationwide Children's and a faculty member of The Ohio State University College of Medicine. "Targeted prevention education is necessary to reduce injury rates and severity among the millions of young athletes playing this sport."

SPRINGBORO -- It was a silent bus ride home for the Springboro boys soccer team after a 1-0 loss to Sycamore in the district finals last week.
Some were sleeping on the bus, while others sat in silence, depressed that their season had come to an end.
