SSA taps Lockheed
Bethesda-based Lockheed Martin Corp., the world's largest defense contractor, said it has been awarded a contract by the Social Security Administration potentially worth up to $200 million. Lockheed will head a team of companies working on the Disability Case Processing System, an information technology modernization program to improve the quality and speed of processing disability claims nationwide. The indefinite delivery indefinite quantity contract carries a one-year base period with five one-year options, and is valued at $200 million if all options are exercised. Global Commerce & Information Inc. of Windsor Mill is among the companies selected by Lockheed to assist with the contract.

Responsibility for developing the business continuity plan rests squarely with management. However, the responsibilities of financial institution boards of directors are spelled out in the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council's IT Examination Handbook. DETROIT, Aug. 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Detroit Medical Center (DMC) achieved significant improvements in patient safety and quality of care, while also saving more than $5 million in costs last year, thanks to efficiencies created by its system-wide Electronic Medical Record (EMR). This system manages nearly all of the DMC's patient health information via new computer-based technology.
For the eight hospitals in the DMC system, it was the second year in a row in which computer-based healthcare information processing created major improvements in quality of care and cost-savings.

The Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) uses the Xerox Ethernet local communications network for two of its departments in its Nashville, Tennessee headquarters. HCA is a $3.5 billion worldwide health care firm that provides computer and management services to hospitals. The network connects optical character reader scanners, laser printers, personal computers, and professional workstations. Six Xerox 8010 Star information systems, a Xerox 860 information processing system, and a Xerox 820-II are linked in the network. A modular approach is used in the distributed network because of revision requirements.

St. Joseph Medical Center (SJMC) is a large, regional healthcare facility that caters to hundreds of patients every day. In order to handle and help so many people, the hospital utilizes the talents of thousands of physicians, specialists, and nurses in more than 35 departments. At such a large capacity, most of the departments in SJMC require a system for processing and filtering reports and information efficiently.
