The most widely used software for those tasks is AutoCAD, a program developed by San Rafael, Calif: based Autodesk Inc. Over the last couple of years, however, the architectural industry has begun using a new form of CAD software that is built on a database foundation, generically called building information management (BIM). Gerald Winkler, president of Spokane's Integrus Architecture PS, says that large Spokane firm tested two or three different building information management software packages, including Exton, Pa.-based Bentley Systems Inc.'s MicroStation and Hungarian software maker Graphisoft's ArchiCAD before settling on Revit.
