As the Honda popped up over the crest of a hill on North Mill Road in Salem and whizzed by the patrol car headed the other way, the Doppler radar's popping -noises went up in frequency and in pitch. Officer William Weeks glanced down at the device in his center console to confirm that the speeder had hit 45 mph in a residential zone.
Weeks quickly slowed down, turned around in a driveway and stepped on the gas to catch up with the Honda as it turned onto Craig Avenue. Weeks radioed to let dispatchers know he was making a traffic stop, turned on his lights, and typed the letters and numbers of the vehicle's license plate in his laptop, beginning the process of writing his report.

ORONO - Think for a moment about Interstate 95. The highway stretches from the Maine-New Hampshire border to Aroostook County in (more or less) a straight line. It facilitates the passage of goods, services and people in an efficient manner. It connects communities that never before were connected.
Most Mainers probably take the interstate for granted, but imagine if it never existed. The state would be significantly disadvantaged compared with others states that have highway infrastructure.

North Carolina has built a telecommunications network operated by telephone companies that serves all data, video and voice needs of state and local governments. Through this information highway, video sessions of psychology, business, literature and enrichment classes are also being held at the state's Hyde Correctional Institution, Pender Correctional Institution and Southern Correctional Institution.
