The National Communications System--part of the US Department of Homeland Security's Information Analysis and Infrastructure Protection Directorate--offers high-priority communications capabilities to national security and emergency preparedness personnel at the federal, state and local government levels to ensure ongoing communications in crises. Maintaining communication is critical so that public managers and other officials can effectively and efficiently respond to emergency situations or terrorist attacks.
WASHINGTON The intelligence arm of the Homeland Security Department is facing a massive overhaul, an admission of shortcomings at what was originally designed to be the government's chief center for analyzing information about terrorist threats. Homeland Security's directorate for Information Analysis and Infrastructure Protection was a top justification when President Bush and Congress created the department in 2002 the largest U.S. government reorganization in 50 years.
