WASHINGTON, Oct. 19 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The first meeting of the NGMTI Industry-Government Forum will take place on October 21 at the Hyatt Regency in Crystal City VA. This meeting is a milestone for a DoD-funded strategy that will accelerate the development and implementation of breakthrough manufacturing technologies in support of the transformation of the defense industrial base and the global economic competitiveness of U.S.-based manufacturing.
Speakers at this meeting include Dr. John Marburger, White House Science Advisor; Deputy Under Secretary of Defense Suzanne Patrick; Boeing Vice President Julie Acosta; and Dale Hall, Vice Chairman, White House Interagency Working Group on Manufacturing R&D.

The insurance loss in Joplin will likely be the largest in Missouri history, said Brent Butler, government affairs director for the industry group Missouri Insurance Coalition.
Estimated insurance losses from the deadly tornado that struck Joplin are about $1 billion to $3 billion, announced EQUCAT Inc., a catastrophe risk modeling firm. That value includes losses for residential, commercial and industrial properties, as well as losses for vehicles.

THE NUCLEAR CRISIS at the Daiichi complex in Fukushima, Japan, has turned a spotlight on the severe dangers involved in storing spent nuclear fuel in pools. But the danger is not new.
In 2003, I co-wrote a report with a group of academics, nuclear industry executives, former government officials and other researchers warning that spent fuel pools at U.S. nuclear power plants were vulnerable. The drainage of a pool might cause a catastrophic radiation fire, we reported, which could render an area uninhabitable greater than that created by the Chernobyl accident (roughly half the size of New Jersey).
