Nearly 100 people visited West Overton Museums near Scottdale on Saturday afternoon to hear author Les Standiford discuss his book "Meet You In Hell," a nonfiction work about the lives of early steel, coal and coke industrialists Andrew Carnegie and Henry Clay Frick.
The lecture was the culminating event of several months of reading and discussion of the book by a number of patrons at 13 Westmoreland County libraries.

The Derby Historical Society will honor two prominent Valley business leaders during its annual Thanksgiving reception at 5 p.m. Monday at Grassy Hill Lodge. William C. Bassett and John A. Frey will be presented with the Dr. John I. Howe Award, said society Executive Director Robert Novak. They are being honored for their lifetimes of service to the Valley community.
Both men are (a part) of the Valley's industrial heritage," Novak said. "We are calling attention to the fact that the Valley's history is one of heavy manufacturing that employed many, many people.

IN 1899, early industrialists built a hydroelectric power station at Glen Ferris on the Kanawha River. It powered metals production and beginning in the 1930s, the streetlights in the town.
The plant also provided the village with filtered water. And almost incredibly, it did all that on an essentially uninterrupted basis for all these many decades.
