Fundamental indicators can be useful trading cools. Those that are issued monthly and are relatively standardized in construction and application are the most appealing. You can turn to a fundamental indicator: the Institute for Supply Management's Purchasing Managers Index, or ISM PMI. The ISM publishes this index monthly. It took more than 15 years for Velcon Filters to double its sales after moving to Colorado Springs from northern California by adding new customers. The filter manufacturer has doubled its sales again, but this time did it in fewer than two years by acquiring new product lines. Velcon recently acquired Twin Filters BV, a Netherlands-based manufacturer of filtration equipment and replacement filters for the oil, liquid and air filtration markets in Europe, Asia and North America that employs about 55 people. The purchase is the second since The Sterling Group, a Houston-based private equity investment firm, acquired 75 percent of Velcon nearly two years ago as part of its strategy of purchasing controlling interests in manufacturing, industrial services and distribution companies.
