LONDON, November 17, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Global gold consumption for 2010 will be higher than 2009 as a result of increasing levels of demand in India and China, sustained global demand for gold investment, together with growth in jewellery and industrial demand, the World Gold Council ("WGC") said.

AIKEN - Pharmaceutical manufacturer Glaxo-SmithKline is asking the Aiken County Council to approve a tax break on an intended $60 million investment at its plant in Verenes Industrial Park.
The council will vote on whether to allow the company to pay a lower property tax rate at a special meeting at 6 tonight. If the council approves the arrangement in three readings, taxes on the investment construction would freeze for 20 years at the 2004 millage of 214.1, and at an assessment ratio of 8 percent.

An Australian company plans to build a $29 million plant at Institute that will convert coal into an activated carbon product and eventually employ about 40 full-time workers, said David Warner, executive director of the West Virginia Economic Development Authority. A $13 million, low-interest loan to Carbonxt Inc. received preliminary approval Thursday from the authority. Warner said the activated carbon product will be used to remove mercury from coal-fired power plant emissions. Mercury emissions are a current target of the federal Environmental Protection Agency.
