Looking for the feel of a SoHo loft, Blumenfeld Development Group has revamped part of a Cold War-era industrial building into class A office space and is calling it home. The 204,000-square-foot building at 300 Robbins Lane had previously been used by BAE Systems for testing and manufacturing of high-speed cameras used for aerial reconnaissance. The building hit the market in 2002, and BDG, which had been on the hunt for a new base of operations, moved quickly.
The owners of the 178-acre former LTV Steel plant in Hazelwood plan to build roads and improve critical infrastructure starting next year as a way to attract developers for housing, light industrial and office space. Don Smith, president of Regional Industrial Development Corp. of Southwestern Pennsylvania, said his group is seeking government loans and private financing to begin the first phase of the work next year at an estimated cost of $20 million. Total cost of the infrastructure work is estimated at $60 million.

The Martin Group is getting nearly $139,000 in tax breaks through the Erie County Industrial Development Agency so it can renovate the long-vacant Wendy's restaurant on Main Street into the new office for the Buffalo advertising and marketing agency. The IDA on Monday approved tax breaks for the $847,000 project that will renovate the existing 1 1/2-story building at 477 Main St. and add a full second floor to the structure.
