President Bush has finally begun promoting one of his highest domestic achievements and the fiscal policies that have produced four years of uninterrupted economic growth.
He delivered a self-promotional economic speech Monday that was long overdue, reminding Americans that the economy was enjoying the highest growth rate among the world's industrial powers because of his tax cuts on incomes, capital gains and dividends, which have fueled one of the longest expansions ever.

The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong had an exuberant year in 2006 when it listed sixty-two companies. The listing of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited on its Main Board earned the exchange the enviable status of being home to the world's largest initial public offering. The HK$333.2 billion in initial public offering capital raised during the year propelled it to the position of second among global exchanges, behind London but ahead of New York. This Article examines an increasingly common feature of initial public offerings in Hong Kong, namely, the introduction of "cornerstone investors" whose participation enhances the general receptiveness to a stock offering. This approach does have a significant downside, however. The new category of "cornerstone investor" may not be...

...[A]s long as a government wants to use the war-technique in its realization of great ideas, it can count serenely on the human resources of the country, regardless of popular mandate or understanding.... We are learning that war doesn't need enthusiasm, doesn't need conviction, doesn't need hope, to sustain it. Once maneuvered, it takes care of itself, provided only that our industrial rulers see that the end of the war will leave American capital in a strategic position for world-enterprise. "- Randolph Bourne, A War Diary, September 1917
As Robert Parry describes, the Military Commissions Act is the latest threat to constitutional democracy, but the Democrats, instead of running to save democracy, uttered hardly a word about the [Bush] administration's threat to the Republic durin...

NEW YORK, Oct. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --Optimism about the prospects for the U.S. and world economy over the next 12 months hit all-time lows among U.S. industrial manufacturers, according to the findings of the Q3 2011 Manufacturing Barometer released today by PwC US. While only five percent of U.S. industrial manufacturers are optimistic about the prospects of the U.S. economy over the next 12 months, the lowest since the fourth quarter of 2008, a vast majority are uncertain, rather than outright pessimistic. Despite those uncertainties, U.S. industrial manufacturers over the next 12 months expect positive own-company growth, are planning major new investments of capital, and are forecasting international sales to more heavily contribute to their bottom lines.

A visit to the Emerald Isle is not complete without including Northern Ireland. It offers the tourist a very different but still very Irish world. While the friction between Catholics and Protestants has caused "the Troubles," it also has created some fascinating travel opportunities. It's not dangerous -- and it's reality.
The most important single stop is the capital, Belfast. A visit to Northern Ireland's largest city makes a perfect day trip from Dublin. With the handy two-hour Dublin-Belfast train, you can leave Dublin early and have plenty of time to tour the city before taking the evening train back. And, while Belfast has the rough edges of any industrial big city, you have to look for trouble to find it here.

MARTINSVILLE, N.J., Oct. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Despite recent turmoil in the markets and fears of slowing economic growth around the world, the auto industry has held steady thanks to several tailwinds that should continue to pave the way for strong future growth. Against this backdrop, Condor Capital Management's Ken Schapiro highlights Ford Motor Company and TRW Automotive Holdings as investment opportunities to consider in the automotive space.
While the devastating natural disasters in Japan earlier this year initially caused substantial supply chain disruptions, many of these issues were quickly resolved. To illustrate, the auto industry continued its strong pace by posting a 1.7% gain in production during August, which was the highest reading in a year and compared to a meager ...
