Born in 1932 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, son of Benjamin Chester Brookmyer of Kissel Hill, and Mabel Rohrer Brookmyer of Lancaster, he graduated from McCaskey High School in 1950. His first job at the age of 16 was digging ditches for 50 cents an hour. Later, selling steel for Jones and Laughlin led him to build and lease industrial buildings, while running his own aerosol manufacturing business, Brookmyer Specialties Company.

Glen Burnie-based Chesapeake Real Estate Group LLC will market two properties it recently purchased to government contractors and distribution firms, company officials said last week. The company bought a 22-acre lot at 3545 Fairfeld Road in Baltimore city for $2.2 million from ConocoPhillips, and plans to build two or three buildings totaling 300,000 square feet for tenants who want to lease industrial office space.
The city of Astoria will be moving ahead with more than $550,000 in road improvements after an Immediate Opportunity Fund grant was approved by the state at last month's Oregon Transportation Commission meeting. The grant, totaling $278,628, was issued to support the development of a 12-acre general industrial site at the city's east end. The grant was matched in full by developer Astoria Business Park LLC. Astoria Business Park's owner, Randy Stemper, purchased nine acres four years ago intending to construct a number of buildings for lease to start-up industrial companies in the Astoria area. SPANISH FORK -- Spanish Springs Development Company has purchased 92 acres of undeveloped industrial land in Spanish Fork, so far the largest commercial land transaction of 2006 in Utah County. The company plans to develop the land immediately, selling improved industrial building lots. It will also begin construction in 2007 on several warehouse buildings for lease.
Wells Development Co. is formulating plans to acquire six acres of industrial land in Tualatin from the Itel Family Trust. The project, dubbed Itel Corporate Center, will include up to 100,000 square feet in one or two buildings designed for industrial and manufacturing tenants, and will be built-to-suit for sale or lease.
