  • INDIANAPOLIS - Because of a new law barring government dollars from going to groups that offer abortions, the state is booting Planned Parenthood of Indiana out of a tax credit program that helps nonprofit groups with fundraising. The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority rejected Planned Parenthood's application to participate for a third year in the Neighborhood Assistance Program, which grants up to $2.5 million each year in tax credits.

  • Cheers for Princeton, Ind., one of two Indiana towns to be named Stellar Communities for 2012. This means that the state of Indiana will invest $20 million over the next three years in Princeton and the other winner, Delphi. Princeton's plan involves development in its Downtown district. Projects include a Bicentennial Plaza, a senior housing project and enhanced gateways into the town with more trees and sidewalks.   • In accordance with Section 102(a)(4)(C) of the Department of Housing and Urban Development Reform Act of 1989, this announcement notifies the public of past funding decisions made by the Department in a competition for funding under the FY2010 Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for the Homeless Assistance Grants program. This announcement contains the names of the awardees and the amounts of the awards made available by HUD in 2010. A Federal Register notice on this action was not published at the time; however, the public was advised of these grant selections since they were posted on HUD's Web site. The posting contained a listing of the selected applicants, including descriptions of the projects.

  • The question was asked at a recent public meeting: Why was a heating assistance program which helped more than 50,000 households last winter allowed to expire? Indiana's three major gas utilities, Citizens Gas, Vectren and NIPSCO, have requested the programs be renewed and so have consumer advocates, community service providers, members of the faith community as well as the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority.

  • INDIANAPOLIS - A survey of Indiana's homeless population this year shows nearly half were homeless with their families and that the number of homeless households with dependent children had risen 7 percent from two years ago. Data released this month by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority shows agencies and volunteers counted 4,053 homeless men, women and children in 40 of Indiana's 92 counties on Jan. 29. That does not include more than 2,000 counted separately in Indianapolis and St. Joseph County, which includes South Bend.

  • TELL CITY, Ind. - The recently renovated Lincoln Hills Development Corp.'s Housing for the Elderly apartment complex at 824 Washington St. in Tell City will be rededicated early next month. The three-story complex, Indiana's first HUD-financed housing for rural elderly when it opened more than 25 years ago, has recently undergone rehabilitation and modernization financed by a $425,000 grant from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority.
