  • As a former Republican, who is now forced to vote Democrat because Jim Sacia invited the mega-dairy to Jo Daviess County, I find it hilarious that the county tea party and their core values are being used to define candidate Victoria Grizzoffi as she runs against the eight-year incumbent. Having access to the tea party's questions does not dictate the stance or platform for a candidate. Most of the questions directed at her were at a federal level and constitutionally based - not something a state legislator has any control over.

  • WASHINGTON - No longer the fresh voice of change, President Barack Obama embarked on a bid for re-election Monday by asking a divided, anxious electorate to let him finish the job he won in 2008. He's getting an early start against a Republican field that's still undefined, but he's saddled with an ailing economy. Obama began with an effort to recapture his outsider's touch of 2008, bypassing a public statement from the White House in favor of an email sent to millions of supporters.

He's getting an early start against a Republican field that's still undefined, but he's saddled with an ailing economy that still isn't working for millions of voters. In Part I, this Article frames the phenomenon of impeachment as judicial selection as a tactic of constitutional hardball, i.e., the framework suggested by Professor Mark Tushnet for understanding how parties or movements secure rapid change between constitutional orders.6 Part I also discusses several of the prominent instances of resort to this tactic, including the Jeffersonian, Nixonian, and Christian Coalition impeachments or threats of impeachment. • In this document, the Federal Communications Commission (Commission) comprehensively reforms and modernizes the universal service and intercarrier compensation systems to ensure that robust, affordable voice and broadband service, both fixed and mobile, are available to Americans throughout the nation. The Commission adopts fiscally responsible, accountable, incentive-based policies to transition these outdated systems to the Connect America Fund, ensuring fairness for consumers and addressing the communications infrastructure challenges of today and tomorrow. The Commission uses measured but firm glide paths to provide industry with certainty and sufficient time to adapt to a changed regulatory landscape, and establish a framework to distribute universal service funding in the most eff...

  • This is a more difficult endorsement than we would have expected. You could hardly find two more different, legitimate candidates for Erie County executive than Republican incumbent Chris Collins and his Democratic challenger, Comptroller Mark Poloncarz. They are poles apart in their ideas and approaches to government, yet there are frankly enough elements in each candidate's platform to wish you could meld Collins' razor-sharp fiscal discipline with Poloncarz's feel for the social elements that help to define and undergird this community.
