GenVec names Collins as president & CEOGenVec Inc., of Gaithersburg, a biopharmaceutical company developing gene-based drugs and vaccines, named Cynthia Collins as president and chief executive officer, effective Wednesday. Her appointment to GenVec's board of directors is expected thereafter, the company said. Collins succeeds Paul H. Fisher, who will step down on Wednesday. Fisher has served as GenVec's president, CEO and board member since 1996. Collins was group vice president for cellular analysis business at Beckman Coulter Inc. from 2007 until it was sold in 2011 to Danaher Corp. Earlier, she was CEO of Sequoia Pharmaceutical Inc., a private biotechnology company developing antiviral drugs.

'we don't know anything about it' Richard Tharp recently bought a ticket to fly Northwest Air Link out of Dubuque to Minneapolis/St. Paul, en route to visit his daughter over Thanksgiving weekend. After reading that Delta Airlines, which merged with Northwest in October, is discontinuing service at Dubuque Regional Airport in August, Tharp called Northwest on Tuesday to confirm the news. "They said, 'We don't know anything about it,' but that I could use that ticket within a 300-mile radius of Dubuque," Tharp said. "Why would I want to do that?
