About half of the fatal motor vehicle crashes in the Miami Valley occur in rural areas, which transportation officials said demonstrates the crucial importance of investing in rural infrastructure. But officials said shrinking transportation budgets make it financially impossible to upgrade the safety features on many of the region's rural roads, and motorists ultimately can have the largest impact on curbing fatal crashes in rural areas by driving in an alert and cautious manner.
FMCSA announces planned improvements to the Carrier Safety Measurement System (SMS) which was implemented in December 2010 as part of the Agency's broader Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) initiative. FARMER CITY - School facilities have a strong impact on student achievement. Blue Ridge has made many improvements to its schools over the past decade or so. On the Farmer City campus, a high school was completed in 2000. Since 2005, Schneider School has received a new roof and windows, upgraded electrical and alarm systems, ADA- compliant restrooms and chairlifts, and playground enhancements. On the Mansfield campus, the district completed $1.1 million in work to Blue Ridge Junior High in 2008 and 2009. This 1939 building was in excellent structural condition, but needed improvements to bring it into the 21st century. Upgrades were completed on security systems, HVAC, lighting, technology, plumbing, art and science rooms, and office areas.
