Glen Burnie's largest civic group is campaigning to push a faith- based homeless center out of its new building on Crain Highway, lodging numerous complaints to county officials since May. Emails and calls from the Glen Burnie Improvement Association about the Emmaus Center have prompted county inspectors to order a halt of most activities inside the center's location in the Steffey Building at 407 S. Crain Highway - including morning prayer and Sunday worship. The group now has services for about 15 to 20 people in an outdoor courtyard.

LA HABRA HEIGHTS - A La Habra Heights Improvement Association meeting last week spun out of control, leading to possible criminal charges that the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office will have to sort out. Activist George Edwards, 42, made a citizen's arrest for battery against association treasurer Jeff Heintz, 52, and John Pearce, 67, a member of the same group. Those two then made the same arrest on the same charge against Edwards.
The Jessup Improvement Association will elect three members to its board of directors during the Oct. 22 general membership meeting.
