The state's principals voted down a proposal meant to even the competition between public and private high schools Tuesday, but the issue could come up for vote again as soon as next May.
By a margin of 332 to 303, principals defeated the Ohio High School Athletic Association's highly debated Competitive Balance Proposal. The proposal, approved for member vote by a 28-member Competitive Balance Committee last year, would have used boundary, socioeconomic and tradition factors to help determine a school's appropriate division in eight team sports.

PORTLAND -- The Portland Pirates are again searching for a National Hockey League affiliate after the Buffalo Sabres announced Friday that they have agreed to purchase the Rochester Americans of the AHL and will affiliate with that franchise to begin the 2011-12 hockey season.

Removal of 56 concrete bollards around the perimeter of the Capitol Complex is "imminent," Administration Secretary Robert Ferguson told the Capitol Building Commission Wednesday.
The 1,100-pound bollards, which provoked intense negative public reaction when they were installed in April, will be removed by the state National Guard, which will use them to enhance security at the 130th Airlift Wing headquarters at Yeager Airport.
