Dear Amy: Our immediate family includes an adult son, his wife and their young children. For reasons unknown to us, about a year ago our daughter-in-law decided to severely limit contact with our family.
On Friday, October 1, 2010 at 6:00 A.M., slipped away to be with her friend and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born September 3, 1924, daughter of the late John and Beulah Keener and sister to the late Anna Keener. She is survived by her husband of fifty-seven years, Henry S. Weber, Jr., along with five children and seven grandchildren. In addition to Henry, her immediate family includes daughter Sylvia Gerz, married to Steve; granddaughter Alix, married to George; grandsons Tim and Marshall; daughter Anita Curry and grandson Joshua; daughter Frances Eileen Clare, married to Dorn; son Christopher, married to Melanie; grandson Bryan, married to Shauna; and son Joseph, married to Johanna, and grandchildren Jennifer and Matthew.

Roy Hollinger, 87, formerly of East Petersburg and Leola, died Sunday, October 4, 2009 at Brethren Village. His family includes his surviving wife, Rhoda Yoder Hollinger, children, and a beloved granddaughter. His immediate family includes his deceased son, Michael, as well as two daughters, Patt and Wanda. Wanda is married to Patrick E. Parks, Jr. and they have a daughter Chelsea. Roy is the last survivor of his immediate family and is the son of the late Jonas and Mae Stoner Hollinger. Three sisters preceded him in death: Ruth Hess, Mary Goda, and Pauline Petticoffer. He retired from Agway Petroleum, and then worked at Lapp Electric and the Manheim Auto Auction. ROANOKE - of Roanoke passed away at home surrounded by loved ones Thursday, June 18, 2009. The Good Lord called him home as he fulfilled his role as protector and provider for 84 years and his job was completed. He was born March 9, 1925, in Clintwood, Va. He is survived by his three children, Charles R. French of Roanoke, Gregory W. French and wife Patricia of Virginia Beach and his daughter Terrie A. French of Roanoke; a brother, David French of Huntsville, Ala.; and a sister, Catherine French Stookey of Wood River, Ill. His surviving immediate family also includes two grandsons, Ryan B. French and Evan R. French of Virginia Beach and a dear friend and helper, Susan N. Connor of Rocky Mount, Va.

'doggie dip' canceled at Flora, rescheduled at Sutton The Leisure Services Department's annual Doggie Dip at Sutton Pool has been rescheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23. The event at Flora Pool was canceled. An admission fee of $5 per dog includes access for immediate family members. Mechanical problems forced Flora Pool to close for the season Monday night - days earlier than originally scheduled.
