SPRINGFIELD - State medical groups are warning that delays in medical licensing might discourage new doctors from seeking residency training in Illinois hospitals.
Applications will take six months or longer because of a recent 69 percent staff reduction in the state office that issues medical licenses, said Susan Hofer of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.

SPRINGFIELD - A two-month-old state law barring sex offenders from practicing medicine has already nabbed nearly three dozen doctors, nurses and other health care workers.
The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation reported Friday it has yanked 35 licenses thus far. Among those affected are physicians with ties to Decatur, Streator, Moline and Carmi.

SPRINGFIELD - State regulators have ordered a former Catholic priest and convicted sex offender in Lincoln to stop the unlicensed practice of clinical psychology.
The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation found Francis A. Benham had been claiming he was a doctor who provides psychotherapy services when he had neither a doctorate nor a state license to practice as a clinical psychologist.

BLOOMINGTON - Bloomington-based Heartland Bank and Trust Co. has assumed the deposits and assets of Bank of Shorewood from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Bank of Shorewood was closed at 7 p.m. Friday by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, which appointed the FDIC receiver. The bank's three offices are in Shorewood, Plainfield and Elmwood (also known as Bank of Elwood).
