(NYSE: JHX) today announced the receipt of a federal grant worth $756,000 to help offset the cost of updating its fiber cement recycling operations in Peru, IL. James Hardie was awarded the grant by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) as part of the Federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).

EFFINGHAM, Ill., May 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) Acting Director David Vaught today joined Heartland Dental Care (HDC), a leading dental service organization, in announcing an expansion of its home office headquarters located in Effingham, Illinois. The expansion will add 40,000 square feet onto the current facility increasing the size of the office to 80,000 total square feet. The project will create 80 new, full-time jobs over the next two years, with the potential to create up to 175 new jobs over the next few years, and will retain nearly 200 jobs.

Nearly 84.7 million people visited Illinois in 2010, up 5 percent from 2009. Tourism was a near $30 billion business for the state in 2010, up more than $2.2 billion from the year earlier, according to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
State and local tax revenues from tourism totaled more than $2 billion in 2010, an increase of $93.5 million. Illinois saw a 5 percent increase in state taxes and a 4.4 percent increase in local tax revenues. Whether federal, state and local, the total tourism tax revenue saves the average Illinois household more than $1,000 in taxes every year.
