For a show whose judges kvetch week after week about contestants being "indulgent" in their performances, "American Idol's" special, "Idol Gives Back," was indulgently long.
As two people who recorded the episode, we both missed the last 24 minutes -- in which superstar Sir Elton John sang the brilliant "Your Song" and contestant Tim Urban was sent packing without the dubious courtesy of a send-off song.
