Coeur d'Alene Mines Corp., the biggest U.S. silver producer, increased its unsolicited bid for Wheaton River Minerals Ltd. by about 11 percent Thursday after the Canadian gold producer spurned an earlier offer.
Wheaton River investors would get C$5 ($3.67) a share in cash, notes or Coeur d'Alene stock for each share, an increase of 50 Canadian cents, or C$285 million, from an offer on May 27, the company based in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, said in a statement. Ian W. Telfer, Wheaton River chief executive, said the offer valuing his company at about C$2.8 billion is "an improvement.
