Over 100 housing units in Portland will be analyzed for lead paint and other building hazards this year thanks to a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Portland's Housing Bureau in collaboration with REACH Community Development and the Multnomah County Health Department will use the Healthy Homes Production Grant to perform environmental assessments and improvements on 175 rental housing units in Portland. The money will also be used to train workers in lead hazard abatement as well as for public outreach.

DIAMOND BAR - Rep. Gary Miller helped secure $1.28 million in federal funds for street improvements in front of a planned housing/ retail center he co-owned, according to federal documents and statements from Miller.
Miller, R-Brea, partnered with his top campaign contributor, Lewis Operating Corp. of Upland, to finance development of the 70- acre Diamond Bar Village, according to documents obtained from Diamond Bar city officials. Campaign watchdog groups said the federal spending - and Miller's investment in the development with a campaign contributor - are a conflict of interest.

Although Mr. Fleming is the first homeowner in the San Ysidro project area to take advantage of the program, more than 400 homeowners have benefited from the Redevelopment Agency's HELP program since its inception. Under the program, homeowners make interior and exterior repairs and improvements, ranging from new paint to roofs, furnaces, plumbing, solar panels and California-friendly landscaping.
