A Venezuelan housekeeper has reached an out-of-court settlement with the Montgomery County family she said treated her like a "prisoner" in their home for four months and never paid her the $350- per-week salary they promised her.
Terms of the settlement between Janet Gonzalez and the Caron family of Dickerson were not released. The settlement also resolves litigation brought against the Carons by three other housekeepers, who claimed they were paid much less than the promised $350 but did not allege the same level of mistreatment.

Bad, bad, Meg Whitman.
Years ago, she needed a housekeeper. She went through an employment agency that ensures compliance with state and federal laws. MEG Whitman is taking some lumps for employing a housekeeper for nine years who turned out to be an illegal immigrant. To be sure, it's a cringe-worthy situation for the candidate who has laid the blame of illegal immigration at the feet of negligent employers.
But it should also be an instructive moment for anyone - from the governor on down to the dishwasher - who thinks the illegal immigration crisis and solution can be summed with simple slogans.
