MANASSAS, Va., Nov. 24, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Richard A. Viguerie, Chairman of ConservativeHQ.com, has expressed opposition to Fred Upton (R-MI) as a candidate for Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee (HECC). The election of Fred Upton to head this important committee would be a slap in the face to conservatives and Tea Partiers," Viguerie said. "Following the 2010 elections, Republican members of Congress have been given a chance to re-establish the GOP as the party of limited government and fiscal responsibility. Legislation that would make it easier for victims of defective foreign-made products to file suit against foreign manufacturers has been advanced by a House committee. The House Energy and Commerce Committee voted Wednesday, July 21, to approve the Foreign Manufacturers Legal Accountability Act, H.R.4678, sponsored by Rep. Betty Sutton, D-Ohio, by a 31-22 vote.

Often in response to tough legal questions on whether a loan restructuring to Solyndra broke the law, witnesses from the Energy and Treasury departments have repeatedly told House Energy and Commerce Committee members that they're not lawyers.
ON Friday, the House Energy and Commerce Committee tried to question two executives from Solyndra. That's the solar-panel manufacturer that went bankrupt, leaving taxpayers to pay a $535 million loan the government guaranteed. Solyndra officials took the Fifth Amendment.
