The sluggish economy has hurt occupancy at Long Island's luxury hotels, while cheaper hotels are packing house, according to the most recent industry statistics.
Luxury hotel occupancy in May on Long Island tumbled 8.7 percent to 68.1 percent from a year ago, according to the latest statistics provided by Smith Travel Research. Luxury occupancy year-to-date fell 7.1 percent to 61.5 percent.
