OAKLAND, Calif. - A clash between Oakland police and Occupy Wall Street protesters left an Iraq War veteran hospitalized Wednesday after a projectile struck him in a conflict that came as tensions grew over demonstration encampments across the San Francisco Bay Area.
Scott Olsen, 24, suffered a fractured skull Tuesday in a march with other protesters toward City Hall, said Dottie Guy, of the Iraq Veterans Against the War. The demonstrators had been making an attempt to re-establish a presence in the area of a disbanded protesters' camp when they were met by officers in riot gear.

Three people remained hospitalized Wednesday afternoon after a weekend boat explosion. Kathy Gillespie, 49, and Keesha Gillespie, 33, both of Goodview were in serious condition at the University of Virginia Medical Center, according to a hospital spokesperson. Robert Overstreet, 38, of Bedford was in good condition at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, said hospital spokesman Eric Earnhart.
The boat's operator, Ricky Gillespie Jr., 32, of Goodview, Heather Bradley, 39, of Vinton and Jessie Loving, 46, of Vinton were treated at Carilion Roanoke Memorial and discharged. The boat's owner, Ricky Gillespie Sr., 49, suffered minor burns but did not require hospitalization, said Lt. Chris Thomas of the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.

Edith Leblanc, 87, of Livermore Falls was in stable condition Wednesday morning, a hospital representative said.

LONGMONT - A 55-year-old Longmont man was hospitalized Wednesday night after he was struck by a marked Longmont police car as he crossed Main Street at 23rd Avenue, according to police.
His injuries are not considered life threatening, according to the Longmont police, who are assisting the Colorado State Patrol with the investigation.
