LEBANON -- Ohio's seven horse racing tracks are jockeying for position in a new market that will feature larger payouts and video slot machines. Gov. John Kasich recently signed into law House Bill 277, which gives the green light to horse-racing tracks to relocate and allows tracks to install video slot machines.
The Jockey Club, acknowledging the audience for horse racing is in steep decline, on Sunday announced a multimillion dollar campaign to increase television coverage and create a racing series to be accompanied by a free-to-play website for picking races as well as a social-network game. The campaign will cost $10million over five years, and the Jockey Club is in discussions with NBC to create a series around next spring's Triple Crown prep races, according to a person with knowledge of the discussions who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
