CHESAPEAKE - Colbert Longworth Taylor of the 1900 block of Shipyard quietly completed his journey Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, three months short of his 100th birthday. God welcomed his faithful servant, our father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle home.
Colbert was born April 7, 1911, in Chesapeake, (formerly Norfolk County). He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace Greely and Esther Ellison Taylor and brother, Robert Taylor. He was the widower of Mary Alice Griffin. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Virgie Artis Taylor and they had a very loving and nurturing relationship.

Phyllis Ann Holt, 75, of Hopewell, died April 9, 2009.
She was a life-long resident of Hopewell. She was employed at John Randolph Medical Center in the housekeeping department and was a member of the choir at First Baptist Church. Miss Holt was preceded in death by her parents, Horace Taylor and Virginia Lipscomb Holt.

Homegoing services for Deacon Lee Earnest Wilcher, age 73, of Thomson, will be held on Saturday April 1, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Stamp Branch Baptist Church, Warrenton, Ga., Rev. Robert Martin, officiating, interment in the churchyard cemetery.
Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Maudie M. Wilcher, Thomson; four sons, Johnny Wilcher, Michael Wilcher, Ronald Wilcher and Ricky Wilcher, all of Augusta; six daughters, Velma (Horace) Taylor, Thomson, Diane (Jimmy) Lott, Norcross, Ga., Shirley Wilcher, Janice Wilcher, Marie Wilcher and Grace (Samuel) Scott of Augusta. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Teresa Taylor; his father, Ron Martin; two sisters, Titania Stephen and Niya Stephen Taubl; one brother, Kareem Taylor; grandmother, Cynthia Thompson; grandfather, Horace Taylor; great-grandmother, Maybelle Henderson; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Inez Thweatt Raines Brown, of 3607 Tavern Road, Petersburg, departed this life Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, at the Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Etta Thweatt. She was preceded in death by her husbands Horace Raines and Deacon Sam Brown; a daughter, Sara Taylor; a son, John Raines; four brothers; one sister and three sisters-in-law.
Mrs. Brown was a member of Union Branch Baptist Church, Prince George, where she was an active member as well as an Usher and Deaconess before her declining health in the pastor's Aid and Industrial Club. She was a former employee for the Fort Lee Laundry and the Love Wayside Furniture Company.

VIRGINIA BEACH - Remus Humphries Taylor, 90, of the 3400 block of Warren Place, passed away Jan. 4, 2010, in his home.
A native of Jacksonville, Fla., he was the son of the late Horace and Ernestine Taylor and the widower of Dorothy F. Taylor. He was a ship pilot in the Panama Canal and a U.S. Naval veteran of World War II. He was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church.
