Lions Clubs International holds convention Lions Clubs International (LCI), the world's largest service organization with approximately 1.35 million members in more than 45,000 clubs, held its 94th International Convention July 4-8 in Seattle, Wash. The convention increased the population of the Seattle area by approximately 17,000. It drew members, their families and friends from around the world. Among the convention highlights was a Parade of Nations on July 5 with 10,000 Lions from 100 countries, many in native dress, along with marching bands and colorful floats. Outside of the US, nowhere else is the impact of current Fed policy being felt more keenly than in Hong Kong. The Special Administrative Region's (SAR) currency board has demanded an ultra-accommodative monetary policy akin to that of the Fed and has shackled the HKD to the USD. This has created quite a challenge for the HKMA, the SAR's de facto central bank that has been obligated to defend the peg through repeated interventions on numerous occasions of late. With little meaningful change to the policy status quo likely in the foreseeable future, the HKMA could well be facing one of the stiffest challenges in the HKD peg's 26-year history.

The motto of the Hong Kong Correctional Services Department (CSD) is to "Support Rehabilitative Offenders for a More Inclusive Society". The Hong Kong CSD has developed a correctional system which has placed increasing emphasis on correction and rehabilitation of offenders over the years. This paper describes the efforts of the Hong Kong CSD in the rehabilitation of young offenders through its Rehabilitation Division that comprises five units: (1) Rehabilitation Units (Assessment and Program), (2) Education Unit, (3) Vocational Training Unit, (4) Psychological Services Section, and (5) Rehabilitation Unit (Supervision). IRVINE, Calif. -- What will become of Hong Kong? Many residents of the city asked this a decade ago, in the anxious days before the Hong Kong handover of July 1, 1997. And some still pose it nervously today, as the 10th anniversary nears of Hong Kong's transition from a British crown colony to a special administrative region of the People's Republic of China. The mix of concerns behind the question, though, has shifted. In 1997, the big worry was Hong Kong's future relationship to Beijing.
China's Asian neighbors are raising concerns about the safety of food from China, taking actions including increased inspections and banning imports from the country. In Hong Kong, which, as a "special administrative region" is substantially autonomous from China, hen-egg imports were temporarily suspended last year.
