The story here is the spirit of New Orleans - its culture and the post-Katrina struggle to maintain its unique jazz roots in the [Treme] district in the face of gentrification, well-meaning but insulting tourist interest and cases of devastation where there's little hope of recovery. Up until about halfway through the second episode, viewers' attention will likely be focused on keeping track of who's who and why they matter. And with each of the first three episodes, you may ask yourself, "What was that about?" (Hey, maybe it has some of that Mad Men appeal after all.) One thing that everybody should be able to agree on is that Treme has an excellent cast, including actors who've worked with [David Simon] before. Well, the music is great. And the settings are authentic, not to mention the real-life characters roaming around and entertaining us in the new HBO series on New Orleans, "Treme." But you're going to have to catch the sweaty fever of rich food, characters and music that is The Big Easy in order to love "Treme" (at 10 p.m. Sunday) right out of the gate. Stick with it and you'll be sucked in, however. The 10-episode series, beginning with a quick-moving, 90-minute opener from "The Wire" creator David Simon (one of many in this production who worked on "The Wire") and Eric Overmyer ("Homicide: Life on the Street" and "The Wire"), follows musicians, a deejay, Mardi Gras Indians and others as they try to rebuild their lives in moldy, post-Katrina New Orleans.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" fans will get to see another side of the guy who plays conspiracy theorist/curmudgeon John Munch when Richard Belzer performs this weekend at The Turning Point. TELL ME MORE: The Man in Black has been playing the Detective in Black for so long (Munch debuted on NBC's "Homicide: Life on the Street" in 1993) that some people may forget he was a big stand-up comic in the 1970s. This weekend, 66-year-old Belzer returns to his roots as a special guest star with Joe Delia's blues and rock band Thieves. Who knows? Belzer, who was the first audience warm-up act for "Saturday Night Live," may even talk about the ever-cynical Munch, whom he recently described as "Lenny Bruce with a badge.
